Signature Grant Networking Event

L.E.W. Carty recently hosted a networking lunch for researchers supported through the Signature Grants program, providing an opportunity for the mid-career researchers to connect, share research capabilities and build their networks for the future.

Researchers presented work focused on understanding the biology of heart disease including preventative strategies for management. Another core theme was the biology of the lung, with studies examining the causes of lung infections, asthma and rarer genetic disorders. As the presentations progressed, opportunities for collaboration readily became apparent.

The lunch also provided the opportunity to seek feedback on the grant strategy of L.E.W. Carty and to hear researchers’ perspectives on emerging priorities. The researchers offered insights and recommendations for Trustees to consider. While the wider research funding environment is currently challenging and low success rates are common, it is promising that major lobbying campaigns are in progress to seek significant increases.

The enthusiasm of these midcareer researchers for their areas of expertise was very impressive. These are exactly the type of researchers we need to ensure the system continues to support, so they can continue to make significant contributions to the research landscape.
