The administering institution must be an organisation undertaking medical research and situated in Victoria.

The organisation is required to be registered with the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission (ACNC) as a charity.

The research project is to be undertaken in Victoria.

The purpose of the research must be for the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of physical or mental disorders of human beings. The focus of each funding round is at the discretion of the trustees.

Applications for the following will not be supported:

  • Projects outside of Victoria.
  • Projects where no benefits accrue to Victorians.
  • Funding requests by an auspicing institution*.
  • Deficit funding or organisations with a potential negative equity position.
  • Retrospective funding, meaning support for programs that have already taken place.
  • Recurrent administrative costs.
  • Grants direct to individuals, including travel expenses, personal study or attendances at conferences or indirectly to individuals i.e. cash handouts and reimbursement of expenses.
  • Conferences and seminars.

* Auspicing refers to the practice of an ineligible organisation applying to L.E.W. Carty Charitable Fund via an eligible organisation that acts as the auspice. Auspicing arrangements are excluded under L.E.W. Carty Charitable Fund’s guidelines. The organisation applying to L.E.W. Carty Charitable Fund must be the organisation that will run the project or program for which a grant is being sought.

Limitations

  • Existing grants need to be successfully acquitted before a new grant is considered, unless agreed to by the L.E.W. Carty Charitable Fund;
