The L.E.W. Carty Charitable Fund was established under the Will of Olive Muriel Carty, who died on 26 February 1977, to honour the memory of her late husband, Leslie Ernest William Carty. Mrs Carty’s bequest of $200,000 was made to the Trustees on 20 February 1980.
It makes grants to authorised charities within the State of Victoria, being either a hospital, institution, society, organisation, body or fund, which are in need of funds to assist or promote research into the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of physical or mental disorders of human beings. Grants to appropriate authorised charities are determined at the absolute discretion of the Trustees.
Over the years, the original bequest has grown through careful investment, and today, the Fund’s corpus is valued at $11m. Grants are distributed each year from the interest generated by the corpus.
